Hello!

Hello!

Two days after moving to NYC, in August 1993, I got my first job as a bicycle messenger with Breakaway Messenger Systems. On the third day, I auditioned with Gary Reynolds who had placed an ad in the Village Voice looking for guitar players. With the addition of powerhouse Dane Charles on drums, Hello! was birthed.

This was a frenetic time....I was biking from 9-6, logging in 50-60 miles worth of bike sprints on a typical day, M-F. Three nights a week Hello would rehearse in the infamous "music building" on 8th ave and 38th Street from 8 pm till midnight, though we we often in there till 2 or 3 am. Within three months we had a full set+ worth of material, within six months we had recorded our first five song demo tape (yes, cassette tape kids) and by month 9 we were working on material to finish a full length...but it was never finished.

Almost exactly when the band hit the 12 month mark, Gary got an opportunity to work for his father back in TX making a lot of money. He took it, and Hello! said goodbye. He's moved around a bit since and now resides in Seattle, WA, owning and running a recording studio called Electrokitty. Dane Charles went on to, among other things, play in a band called Vibrolush, which toured with The Rolling Stones.

I pulled these tracks, my favorites, off of old cassette demos and the CD CMJ Presents Certain Damage Volume 54, which featured our first single Subway.
